Learning Theme: The
Living Word!
PARENT
PITCH: Se that the word “living”
comes to life in this year’s theme. Age
seven is a great time to fill your child’s mind with Bible stories. Don’t just make them learn verses about the
Bible, help them LOVE the Bible. Let
them see your love for God’s Word. Make
sure they know the books of the Bible in order.
Show them how to find their favorite verses.
1. Teach that God’s Word is inspired! Learn the Books
of the Bible in order.
MEMORY VERSE: “All
Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be
adequate, equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NASB).
2.
God’s Word is like a lamp. It
turns on inside of you.
MEMORY VERSE: “Thy word
is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105.
3.
God’s Word is like a Sword.
Explain its effect on thoughts and attitudes (use Ephesians 6:10-18 to
teach about the Armor of God).
MEMORY VERSE:
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the
thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews
4:12.
BIBLICAL RESOURCE: Ephesians 6:10-18.
4.
God’s Word gives new life (rebirth)!
Life means growth, like the tiny seed that becomes a tree.
MEMORY VERSE: “For you
have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the
living and enduring word of God.” 1
Peter 1:23.
5.
Admire God’s creative power.
Nature itself is like a bible that witnesses to our faith in God
(in ways consistent with the real Bible).
The Bible is infallible but it is not our only source for learning about
God.
MEMORY VERSE: “The
heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1.
MEMORY VERSE: “For
since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and
divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made,
so that men are without excuse.” Romans
1:20.
SUGGESTED
SONGS:
Danger, Danger! (Ephesians
6:10-18)
The Books of the New Testament
Thy Word (page 449 in our
hymn book)
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet,
And a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet,
And a light unto my path
When
I feel afraid, think I’ve lost my way,
Still,
You’re there right beside me.
Nothing
will I fear, as long as you are near,
Please
be near me to the end.
PARENT POSTSCRIPT: Songs are awesome
teaching tools. See the appendix for the
words to the song we use to teach our children the books of the New Testament
in order (don‘t overlook the Old Testament books). The “Danger, Danger” song has fun motions to
go with it. The armor of God
passage invites the creative use of object lessons as does the song about the
lamp guiding our feet.
