Home Learning Theme:  The Holy Spirit Makes You Smile Inside!

PARENT PITCH:  Having learned about God, our Creator, and Jesus, our Loving Savior, it’s time to teach your child about the Holy Spirit, our Helper/Comforter.  The Holy Spirit is dynamic and divine and he is your “Helper” as a parent too!

1.  Assure your child that the Holy Spirit is our “Helper.”

MEMORY VERSE:  “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things...”  John 14:26.

2.  Teach  the  maxim;  “Your   heart   is God’s  Home.”

MEMORY VERSE:  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.”  1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

3.  God’s Holy Spirit overflows our hearts with hope (teach what ‘hope‘ means).

MEMORY VERSE:  “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”   Romans 15:13.

4.  Teach your child that joy can make them strong (and make them smile).

MEMORY VERSE:  “The joy of  the  Lord  is your strength.”  Nehemiah 8:10.

5. God is working on you. His goodness grows on you like fruit on a tree.

MEMORY VERSE: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”  Galatians 5:22-23 (see also verse 25)

6.  Introduce the idea of eternity, trusting that it is in their heart already.

MEMORY VERSE: “He has also set eternity in the hearts of men.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

   The joy of the Lord is my strength...  (4 times)

   He heals the broken-hearted and they cry no more  (repeat 3X then sing;

     “The joy of the Lord is my strength”).

   He gives me living water and I thirst no more... (repeat 3X then sing;

     “The joy of the Lord is my strength”).

   He fills my heart with laughter, ha ha ha ha ha...  (repeat 3X then sing;

     “The joy of the Lord is my strength”).

PARENT POSTSCRIPT:  If you wish to shorten a verse to enhance learning, feel free (or see text for the larger context).  Post a list of the Fruit of the Spirit on the refrigerator in our homes!  Cut signs out in the shape of fruit, and write a fruit of the Spirit on each one.  Be creative.
