Age 4 Home Learning Theme: Jesus Teaches Us to
Love.
PARENT PITCH: As your child begins to realize that other
people exist, be there early to teach them to love. And Jesus is the best place to start when
teaching about love.
1.
Make: “Love is as love does” a motto in your home (teach the “Golden
Rule”).
MEMORY VERSE: “So in everything, do to others
what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 7:12 (the
Golden Rule).
2. Make friendly visits to neighbors with your
child (take a gift too).
MEMORY VERSE: “Do not seek revenge or bear a
grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.” Leviticus 19:18.
3. Define “neighbor” by telling the Good
Samaritan story (Luke 10:27-37).
MEMORY VS: “Love the Lord your God with all
your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27.
4.
Show compassion to others while instilling gratitude. Let your child see (in a safe context) that
some kids don’t have all the blessings he/she has.
MEMORY VERSE: “Defend the cause of the weak and
fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.” Psalm 82:3.
5. Teach that words are also a good way to show
love.
MEMORY VERSE: “Do not
let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for
building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who
listen.” Ephesians 4:29.
6. Always Tell the Truth!
MEMORY VERSE: “Truthful
lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.” Proverbs 12:19.
7.
Let Jesus enter into your heart.
MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, I
stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice
and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with
Me.” Revelation 3:10 (NASB)

PARENT POSTSCRIPT: Teach verses with
flash cards, mirror & refrigerator notes, etc. Moses advised; "Write them [God's
commands] on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." (Deut.
6:9). Don’t fail to partner with your
child’s Sunday School teacher for branching into other
areas of learning for them.
