I am pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas H. Olbricht plans to be our guest at the Northern Light Church of Christ on Sunday, April 20, 2008.  You can also hear him speak at the Richfield Church of Christ at their ministry workshop on Saturday, April 19th.

Dr. Olbricht is a distinguished scholar among Churches of Christ.  He has nearly fifty years experience as a minister (in fives states), along with twenty years as an elder (in two states).  He has taught and mentored over two thousand students who become ministers, missionaries, or university professors.  He and his wife Dorothy have five children (Suzanne, Eloise, Joel, Adele, and Erica) and twelve grandchildren.

Dr. Olbricht received his Ph.D from the University of Iowa, and his S.T.B. from Harvard Divinity School.  He served as the Director of Forensics at Harding University (1954-55), as chairman of the Speech department at the University of Dubuque (1955-59), and as an associate professor of Speech and Humanities at Pennsylvania State University (1962-67).  He and Dorothy moved to Abilene where he served as a professor of Bible and Academic Dean at Abilene Christian University.  From there, they moved to California to serve as the chairman of the Religion department at Pepperdine University.  Finally, about ten years ago, Tom retired and moved with Dorothy to Berwick, Maine, to be near to family.  Tom is the author of numerous book and publications related to biblical scholarship and Christian ministry.  He also loves to sing!

Here are Dr. Olbricht"s plans for his Twin City visit:

Saturday, April 19 – Dr. Olbricht will be a featured speaker (late morning) at the "Here Am I, Send Me" Ministry Workshop (April 18-19) hosted by the Richfield Church of Christ (directions below).

Sunday, April 20  - 9 AM: Adult Sunday School Class.  Dr. Olbricht will cover Colossians 3:1-17, where Paul charges believers to synchronize their lives in the body of Christ with the high bar set by the gospel of Christ.  We meet at the Northern Light Church building (directions below).

Sunday, April 20 – 10:15 AM:  Worship at Northern Light.  Dr. Olbricht"s sermon will focus on Colossians 3:13-16, where the body of Christ is challenged to (1) to bear with one another, (2) forgive one another, (3) clothe herself with love, (4) let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, and (5) Let the word of God dwell in us richly.

Sunday, April 20 – 5 PM:  Area-Wide Spring Sing! (at the Northern Light church building)  Between lots of singing, Dr. Olbricht will offer a 15-minute devotional based on Colossians 3:16, and on Psalms that affirm why God"s children sing: (1) To praise God, (2) To thank Him, (3) To express Joy, (4) To declare God"s wonderful works, (5) To recount God"s attributes, (6) To affirm delight in God"s law, and (7) To teach and admonish.  You don't want to miss meeting and hearing Dr. Olbricht.  And he does not want to miss hearing good Minnesota singing!
